Among the great classical attars of India, few carry the mystery, density, and reverence of Shamama.

Born from the old perfuming houses of Kannauj, India’s famed Perfume City, Shamama is not a simple blend. It is a slow-built attar of herbs, spices, florals, resins, woods, roots, and precious aromatic materials, traditionally composed through guarded family knowledge and patient distillation. In its highest expressions, it may contain dozens sometimes well over a hundred ingredients, each folded into the next until no single note stands alone, but all move as one deep, living body.

SQ Shamama belongs to that rare lineage.

This oil was crafted for HM Sultan Qaboos, a provenance that immediately places it beyond the ordinary. One can sense the level of attention behind it: noble materials, traditional workmanship, and a composition made not for trend, but for royal taste. It is classical Indian perfumery seen through a lens of majesty and restraint.

On the skin, SQ Shamama opens with an arresting richness: rose, camphoric brightness, musk, warm spice, and a dark earthy depth that feels ancient from the first touch. Beneath this first impression, a beautiful sweetness begins to rise: honeyed, nectared, almost melon-like,  giving the oil an unusual lushness and a faintly aquatic radiance.

As it unfolds, saffron glows through the heart with quiet luxury. Aromatic herbs and fresh vetiver lend lift and refinement, while indolic florals soften the darker undertones with sensuality and grace. The composition remains dense and opulent, yet never crude. It carries the polished gravity of a great attar: layered, patient, and deeply composed.

In the base, Mysore sandalwood gives warmth and permanence, while a subtle thread of Hindi oud anchors the oil without dominating it. Labdanum-like resinous depth, musk, spice, and ambered shadows remain close to the skin, leaving a dignified trail that feels both intimate and ceremonial.

SQ Shamama is not merely a fragrance of sweetness, spice, and wood. It is a surviving expression of a disappearing art: the slow, secretive, multi-generational craft of classical Indian attar making.

A few drops are enough to understand its stature.

Royal in origin.
Ancient in spirit.
Dense, radiant, and beautifully alive.

SQ Shamama is heritage captured in oil.
